Our story
Ewa, pronounced [eh-wah] is a yoruba word meaning beauty. But it is somewhat more profound than external beauty. It means inner beauty, emanating from good character and proper upbringing.
It speaks to the hidden person of the heart and in a very popular Yoruba saying "Iwa l'Ewa" , meaning good character is true beauty. This really sums up the essence of EWA Art.
Our vision is to curate and promote authentic, beautiful, considered and exciting African art and consequently the creators of this pieces, so we can elevate the conversations and appreciation of African art.
We invite you to come into our world enjoy the unique perspectives of these talents, and our believe is that you would fall in love with them like we have.
Art is life!
Perspectives captured, delivered by blessed hands & minds. Africa is rich with colourful hues, motifs, textures and nuances. EWA ART'S considered objective is to bring this rich, vibrant, expressive art into the homes of connoisseurs, enthusiasts and lovers of beauty globally, whilst we provide a veritable platform where these incredibly gifted souls can find expression, appreciation and value. Art after all is the expression of life through the soul lens of a person.
EWA is an deep Yoruba word, simply meaning beauty. But EWA is a derivative of another yoruba word, IWA, which means good manners, depth and character. You would often find both words in the same sentence when Yorubas speak. They say IWA L'EWA. Meaning good character is beautiful. Real beauty has depth and character and that is what we are trying to convey through the art we curate. You cannot fully appreciate these hues and shapes, without understanding the back stories.
The depth of thought and character that made the piece! Every home deserves to have one of our pieces, yet we know that only the truly discerning will somehow have this honour. As you spend time looking over these pieces, please take just a little bit longer to savour the story and depth in each piece. There is more to these pieces than meets the eye, like they say. I have fallen in love with many of these pieces, I hope your heart is strangely warmed by a deserving one!
Welcome to our world of African colours, expressions and depth. Welcome to authentic beauty.
